Laurie Hinnant, PhD

Dr. Laurie Hinnant is the Senior Director of Public Health Research and Practice at 2M. Dr. Hinnant is a community health psychologist with more than 19 years of experience in the evaluation of federal, state, and local public health efforts. Dr. Hinnant’s key areas of expertise include community- and health-related evaluation planning and implementation, qualitative research methods, community-based research and evaluation, and training and technical assistance.

Dr. Hinnant serves as a Senior Advisor to a number of 2M projects. Currently, she supports the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) development of a White Paper on Child Obesity and Trauma, the purpose of which is to explore evidence-based practices and interventions specific to children who are obese and have experienced abuse and complex trauma and are, therefore, more vulnerable to long-term health consequences.

Prior to joining 2M, she was a Senior Research Public Health Analyst with RTI International. Dr. Hinnant’s experience extends beyond her technical expertise, with extensive work in staff and program management, business development, strategic planning, and organizational development efforts. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Elon College and her Master of Science in Psychology and her PhD in Psychology from North Carolina State University.
